How to Cash a Check From Ireland in Euros

If you have a check from Ireland and you need to cash it into euros (possibly due to traveling) you need to find a location that is capable of cashing your Irish check. All banks don't have these capabilities because they don't all carry different foreign currencies. To obtain the euros, you must find a bank that has the currency available.

1. Go to a bank where you have an account. You must be a member of the bank system before it is going to even consider cashing such a check. There is no way for bank staff to know, at least for several days, that the Irish check is valid. As an account holder, the bank possesses all of your information, so if the check is no good they can contact you.

2. Contact your bank and ask what locations provide foreign exchange. Usually the central location for you bank in the area provides this service.

3. Take your Irish check, bank ID and a government-issued ID (such as a driver's license or passport) to the bank.

4. Sign the check over to the bank and receive your euros back. Due to the bank's exchange rate, you are going to receive a little less than what it is actually work (banks usually charge a percentage when exchanging money).
