How to Change the Windows Settings for Waiting for a Screen Saver
A screen saver that pops up too frequently can be an annoyance. But not having a screen saver could damage your monitor by burning a negative image of an idle page permanently into the screen.The solution is a screen saver that starts after a convenient wait time. It only takes a few clicks to set the screen saver wait time in Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows 7.

Windows Vista

Click on the "Start" button in the lower left hand corner of the screen. This is a circle that contains the Windows logo.

Click on "Control Panel."

Click the "Appearance and Personalization" heading, then click on "Personalization."

Click on the "Screen Saver" heading. The Screen Saver screen includes a pull down list of screen savers. Below is a "Wait" tab with the option to choose anywhere between 1 and 9999 minutes.

Choose the length of wait time that meets your needs. Click "Apply."
Windows XP

Click "Start" and then click "Control Panel."

Click "Appearance and Themes."

Click "Display." Find the tab marked "Wait" and choose the number of minutes you would like your computer to wait before starting a screen saver. Click "Apply" or "OK."
Windows 7

Right click your mouse to open a desktop screen. Find the heading "Personalize" and click to open.

Click on the "Screen Saver" heading in the right corner of that screen. Find the "Wait" tab and select the number of minutes you would like your computer to wait before starting a screen saver.

Tips & Warnings
A screen saver wait time for most computer users is between three and 10 minutes. To stop a screen saver, simply move the mouse or press any key.
Never download a screen saver from a questionable source. Screen savers downloaded from the Internet can contain viruses that can harm your computer.
