      Wear protective clothing. A face mask, protective eye goggles, gloves and old clothes that can be tossed out afterward are all things you should wear when getting rid of mildew. Protection can prevent any mildew or spores from getting into your eyes and lungs.

      Open the duct. After opening the duct, spray the affected area with bleach. This helps prevent any spores from becoming airborne and it will soften the mold or mildew and make it easier to remove.

      Wait a few minutes and proceed by scrubbing the area with a hard scrubbing brush.

      Rinse the duct with cold water and let the water dry. If you do not want to wait, use a rag or cloth to dry the area.

      Get rid of any excess water or moisture. Fix any leaks you have in your plumbing or other sources of water that are near the duct that could be causing the mold.
