How to Advertise a Job Online

How to Advertise a Job Online thumbnail
Employers have several options on how to advertise job openings online.

Employers have many resources when advertising a job online, ranging from dedicated job search sites to electronic versions of newspapers and magazines. While most of these sites are free for job seekers, the majority require companies pay to list employment advertisements. Before paying any fees to list your job ad online, read the website's terms and conditions to verify what types of jobs you are allowed to advertise, how long your ad will remain active and how you may remove the advertisement after you've filled the position.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a descriptive advertisement. Before posting your job online, write an advertisement listing the job title, the nature of your company, qualifications required for the position, salary and benefits.

    • 2

Use keywords. To maximize the amount of applicants who view your ad, Human Resource Solutions recommends that employers use descriptive keywords about the duties, educational requirements and necessary skills to your posting.

    • 3

Explain how applicants should apply for the position. List information on what materials to include in the application packet, such as a resume, cover letter and writing sample. State how you wish to receive the materials. Unless you are placing a confidential ad, list a contact person for applicants.

    • 4

Choose appropriate sites to list your advertisement. In addition to major job sites, such as Monster, Yahoo! HotJobs and Career Builders, consider niche job search sites tailored to your industry, such as Martindale Careers, Med Hunting or Dice.

    • 5

Contact local newspapers and magazines. Many traditional publishers allow employers to advertise jobs online as well as in their printed products for an extra fee.

    • 6

Use your own web space. In addition to advertising your job opening on third-party websites, list your job advertisement on your company's website.
