How to Use Clear Embossing Ink
Embossing ink is a slow-drying, glycerin-based pigment sold as ink pads or pens for creating raised, embossed, stamped designs when heated with embossing powders. Clear embossing ink, unlike colored embossing ink, allows the color underneath the ink to show through the inked design, when used with a clear embossing powder. Clear embossing ink works like any other ink pad with rubber stamps. However, the clear pigment makes a useful surface coating for stamping or painting resist techniques.

Using a Clear Embossing Ink Pad

Place card stock on your work surface, and then remove the lid from the clear embossing ink pad. Select a rubber stamp, and press the stamp evenly onto the clear embossing ink pad.

Press the inked rubber stamp onto the card stock, without rocking the stamp or exerting heavy pressure.

Coat the stamped image with clear embossing powder, so any color underneath shows through the ink and powder; heat the area with a heat gun, until the embossing powder melts and dries into a raised surface.

Make a solution of one part water and one part glycerin, and then wet the surface of the clear embossing ink pad with the solution to refresh the ink, if necessary.
Using a Clear Embossing Ink Pen

Stamp an image on card stock or a sheet of paper in colored inks, allow the image(s) to dry, and then trace the part of the stamped design you want to emboss using a clear embossing ink pen.

Coat the inked area immediately with clear embossing powder, and heat with a heat gun, until melted; allow the area to cool.

Write a name or draw a custom design on the card stock or paper using a clear embossing ink pen; coat the custom inked areas with clear embossing powder and heat, until melted.

Make an allover design on card stock or paper with rubber stamps and colored inks. Cover the entire card or paper with clear embossing ink using a brayer; coat with clear embossing powder, and heat with a heat gun.

Crinkle the paper or card for a distressed, crackle look, after drying.

Tips & Warnings
Do not allow the clear embossing ink to dry before coating the inked design with embossing powder.
