Kelvinator appliances have long been a staple in the American household. They were first introduced to the American market back in the 1920s. Today Kelvinator brands are mostly sold to the international market. Kelvinator washers work by turning the laundry in the laundry tub with a device called an agitator. Occasionally these agitators break, in which case you'll need to replace your Kelvinator washer agitator. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Unplug your Kelvinator washer from the wall. Open up the hood to expose the wash tub and the agitator.
-
2
Remove the agitator cap. Take a close look at the top of the agitator. You should see a thin line where the bottom of the cap meets the top of the agitator. Press a screwdriver against this line until the cap begins to edge up. Pop the cap off with the screwdriver, and set it aside.

3
Remove the agitator bolt. In the majority of Kelvinator washers, this is a hex type bolt. Unscrew this counterclockwise with a socket wrench. Set the bolt aside.

4
Give the agitator a few taps with the rubber mallet to help loosen it from the agitator hub. Reach underneath the agitator with your hands. Hold your head to the side and away from above the laundry tub. Keep your face turned to the side so that you don't get an eyeful of agitator. Pull on the agitator until you feel it start to slide along the agitator hub. If you can't get your hands beneath the agitator, try looping a piece of rope beneath the agitator. Tie this to a piece of 2x4 set across the top of the Kelvinator. Gently press on one side of the board until the rope becomes taught and pulls up on the agitator. Once the agitator is free, pull it off the agitator hub and out of the laundry tub.

5
Slide the new agitator along the hub until it is seated at the bottom of the tub. Replace the agitator screw, and tighten in place with the socket wrench. Replace the agitator cap.
-
6
Run a wash cycle, and check for proper agitation.
