Windows XP features an automatic backup utility that will back up the contents of your computer hard drive to a designated destination. By changing the settings in this utility, you can change when your computer is backed up, which files are backed up and where they are backed up.

Instructions

      Click the "Start" button, open "All Programs," open "Accessories," go to "System Tools" and then click on "Backup." Click the "Next" button to begin modifying the settings for the Backup utility.

      Change what folders you wish to back up by clicking the "Let me choose what to back up" option and then clicking the "Next" button. Once finished with this, you can click the "Next" button to move to on altering where to store the backup files.

      Check the location of where to save the backup (along with the backup name) by clicking the "Browse" button. Click "OK" once you have chosen the new location and then click the "Next" button.

      Review your settings, and if they look right, click the "Finish" button to save your backup settings and exit the Backup utility.
