How to be a Professional at Your First Modeling Interview
-
1
Prepare for your interview with the agent just like you would prepare for a traditional job interview. The agent may ask you about your goals, previous modeling experience (if you have any), aspirations, family values and where you see yourself five years in the future.
-
2
Wear comfortable and casual clothes that accent your body, but are not overbearing. Make sure that your hands and feet are manicured, and it is best that you don't wear bright nail polish. For women, your hair should be pulled back from your face, and your make-up should be very natural and clean. For men, your hair should be cut and trimmed, and you should have no facial hair. Make sure that your face is clear from acne and you are looking polished.

3
Bring your best, natural photos of yourself. They don't have to be professionally taken. If you don't have a portfolio, that's okay. Most likely, if the agent is interested in representing you, she will take photos of you on the spot during your interview.
-
4
Act professionally when you are waiting in the agent's office. Do not get up, walk around or snoop at the reception desk. Turn off your cell phone and sit quietly.
-
5
Smile, smile, and smile some more. While you are interviewing, look into agent's eyes, smile and make sure you shake his hand when you introduce yourself, and when you leave the interview. First impressions are lasting, and keep in mind that your interview will be very quick. Make sure you impress the agent by being attentive, and try to absorb everything he says, so you will be ready to move forward to the next steps if he chooses to represent you.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure that you are rested and fresh-looking for the interview. Agents see aspiring models every day, so they know the difference from those who partied all night, and the ones who have had a good night's rest.
Do not go to any model interviews if you have bad hair or bad skin. Try to reschedule if your face is breaking out, or if you are having a perfectly dreadful hair day.
Make sure that you know some basics about the model and fashion industry, so that you can ask appropriate questions. Do not waste the agent's time with questions that don't pertain to your career, or what the agency isn't capable of doing for you.
