How to Disable HGFS VMWare Tools
When a virtual machine is created in VMWare, a software program called "VMWare Tools" is installed on the virtual machine if the operating system on the virtual machine is supported. VMWare Tools allows fast screen resolution changes, improved performance in the virtual environment, and direct file sharing between the virtual machine and the host computer--a feature also called "HGFS." One popular use for VMWare is to install new and untested software in a virtual environment where the host computer cannot be harmed by viruses or poor programming. If HGFS is enabled, however, direct file sharing between the host and virtual machine can cause a security risk, as it can give a virus that attacks the virtual machine free access to infect the host machine as well. Disable HGFS in your VMWare virtual machine to prevent direct access between the two machines and avert a potential security risk.
