Linksys also makes routers and wireless modems.

For many, the default settings on a Linksys wireless networking card will work just fine. However, some settings may actually impair the speed of your connection, depending on exactly what type of network you are running. You can tweak the settings of your Linksys wireless networking card using its settings utility, which you can access via any web browser.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open your web browser.

    • 2

Type "192.168.1.1" into the address bar. This is the default IP address for your Linksys wireless equipment. This will bring up the settings utility for your device.

    • 3

Type your user name and password into the boxes and click "Sign In."

    • 4

Use the tools you see on screen to tweak the settings on your Linksys wireless card. You can add a password to your card by selecting "Security," for example. You can also change your card's user name and password by selecting the "General" tab.

    • 5

Click "Save" when you're finished to save all of the tweaks you have made to your Linksys wireless card.
