How to Make a Live Minnow Cage for Fishing

If you have a pier around your pond and have a place to hang a minnow cage, then this idea is for you. If you are tired of having to keep your minnow bucket hanging in cold water, this works great!

Things You'll Need

• 5 medium sized window screens.
• Sheet metal screws.

• minnows

Instructions

1. The first thing you need to do is decide where you want to place a minnow cage and whether or not you have enough room. Measure if necessary. The best idea is to be able to place it near where you are fishing so that all you need to do is dip the minnows out and go fishing.

2. Take five medium sized window screens and use sheet metal screws to secure them together. Make a box out of them, four sides and a bottom. On top of the minnow cage, place two pieces of wood across the top and use an S hook that will hold a chain. Place a long enough chain onto the minnow cage so that you can lower it into the cooler water. Secure the minnow cage to a post, pier or whatever you have that will hold it in place.

3. Leave enough room on top of the cage to be able to use a net to dip the minnows out. Use a minnow net attached to a rake handle for ease of access. When the cage is empty, make sure that you take the cage out and clean it out from any trash or algae that may build up on it. Do not use cleaners, just simply run water over it with a hose.
