How to Save Remote Control Codes

It is important to save the codes for your universal remote

In the event that you lose your remote control, or that the remote control you currently own has been damaged, you can take the opportunity to buy a universal remote control. These remotes not only control your TV, but can control other devices as well, like your digital cable box or DVD player. To sync your remote up with these devices, you will need to enter a code into your remote. While the remote will save the codes by itself, you may need to reenter the codes if your remote batteries are reset somehow. It is therefore important that you find a way to save these codes.

Instructions

1. Consult your universal remote's manual for the list of codes that might work for the device you wish to program. For example, if you have a Sony television, you'll need to find the list of possible Sony television codes in your manual.

2. Enter the codes into your remote, one by one, in accordance with your remote manual's instructions, until you find a code that works on your device.

3. Circle the correct code for your device in your remote manual. You will now know exactly which code is the right one when you need it.

4. Store the remote manual in a safe place that you will remember.
