How Do I Set Up a Word Document for File Labels?

Set up file labels in Microsoft Word.

One thing you can do to help organize your office is print some basic file labels for your filing system. You can do this right from your home computer using Microsoft Word. There are a couple ways to do it---using a template or from scratch. Just make sure you have the appropriate sheet of labels to print on, and you'll be all set.

Things You'll Need

• Microsoft Word
• Sheet of file labels

Instructions

From a Template

1. In Microsoft Word, click the "Microsoft Office Button." Click "New."

2. Under "Templates, scroll through the list under "Microsoft Office Online." Click "Labels." Click "Office" to find file labels. This will load all the available office labels from Microsoft Office Online.

3. Find a template that matches your type of label sheets. Most will list which product numbers with which they are compatible. Select a template and click "Download."

4. Change the sample text to your own. You are ready to print the customized file labels on your label sheets.

From Scratch

1. Start a blank document in Microsoft Word.

2. On the "Mailings" tab, click "Create." Select "Labels." In the "Labels" dialog box, leave the "Address" box blank and click "Options."

3. Click the type of printer you are using. Next to "Label Vendors," choose the supplier of your label sheets. Select the product number of your label sheets. Click "OK."

4. Under "Print," select "Full Page of the Same Label." Click "New Document." This will launch a new document that is laid out as a table for your sheet of labels.

5. Type the text you want for each label. Make changes to format the text and you will be ready to print your file labels.
