How to Dye a Nylon Jacket
You may assume because of the slick feel of the fabric, that a jacket made from nylon cannot be dyed. However, this is not correct. As long as your jacket is made entirely from nylon and is not a nylon-and-Lycra blend, you should quite easily be able to change the color using specialty acid dye. Always check the care label of your jacket before dying to ensure it is all nylon and does not warn against the process.

Combine the acid dye, salt and water in a large pot. The amount of salt and water that you use will vary depending on the acid dye product that you have chosen. Follow the directions on the packaging for your particular product regarding the amounts to add.
-
2
Submerge your clean, dry jacket in the dye solution and place the cover on the pot.

3
Place the pot on a range burner and turn the burner on medium heat. Allow the dye to come to and maintain a medium simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
-
4
Use a potholder to remove the lid from the pot and add the amount of distilled white vinegar that is called for by your particular product. Place the lid back onto the top of the pot, again using the potholder to prevent burning your fingers.
-
5
Allow the jacket to simmer in the solution for for another 10 to 15 minutes. Remove the pot from the burner.
-
6
Spread out a layer of old towels onto a non-porous surface. Use a large, slotted spoon to fish your jacket out of the dye and transfer it to the towels. Spread the jacket out with the tips of your fingers and allow it to cool.
-
7
When the jacket is completely cool, rinse it thoroughly under running water until the water coming off of the jacket is absolutely clear. Lay the jacket out again on clean towels or tumble dry it in your machine on a low setting.
