How to Create Business Cards in Word
Remember the old days when you ordered your business cards from a professional printer? Perhaps you did not notice they misspelled your street name when you approved the mark-up. That error cost you 500 or so business cards with the wrong address. Or perhaps you changed your phone number. Now, what do you do with that box of unused, professionally printed business cards? Chuck them; that's what you do. Then create your own business cards using Microsoft Word and print them as needed.
Instructions
-
Create Business Card
-
1
Click on the "Mailings" tab from the Menu bar then select "Labels" from the toolbar. (In earlier Word versions, select "Tools" from the Menu bar, point to "Letters and Mailings," select "Envelopes and Labels," then click on the "Labels" tab.)
-
2
Click on the "Options" button in the Labels Dialog box and search for the product number listed on your business card sheet (also found on the business card box). You can find business card sheets at any retail office supply store. If you cannot find the product number, you may need to change the "Vendor" (or "Label Products" found in earlier Word versions). For example, if your business cards are manufactured by Avery, search for and select "Avery." Click on the "OK" button to exit.
-
-
3
Click on the "New Document" button in order to view the business card sheet on the computer screen.
-
4
Click on the first business card ("Label") and type the information you want to appear on your card. Use enhancements such as color, size, text alignment if desired.
Copy and Paste Finished Card
-
5
Select the contents of the label by dragging through all of the text (hold the left-click down and move the mouse over the contents--do not release the mouse until your selection is complete). If you make an error, click outside of the selection to deselect and attempt your selection again.
-
6
Copy the data by right-clicking the selection. Then left-click "Copy" from the corresponding menu. (Right clicks always result in menus. To select from menus, you left click.)
-
7
Paste the copied data into the remaining labels by right-clicking into an empty label. Left-click on the "Paste" option from the corresponding menu. Continue to paste the copy into the remaining labels (no need to re-do the copy, just right-click and "Paste" into all the labels).
Finalize Card
-
8
Preview your document to make sure you do not have an extra row of cards on a second page. If you find that you do, click outside of and to the left of the row on the second page to select it. Press "Ctrl" and the letter "X" on your keyboard to cut out that row.
-
9
Save the document.
-
10
Print your business cards as needed.

Tips & Warnings
You can also add pictures and/or clip art into your business card just as you would insert these items into any Word document. Make sure you have clicked into the card you are working on before inserting a graphic. Resize and move graphics as necessary.
