How to Spray Prowl Herbicide for Crabgrass
Prowl herbicide is a liquid based pre-emergent weed killer that kills small weeds and prevents additional weeds from growing. It is applied as a spray to the soil and is effective for killing small crabgrass and crabgrass seeds. It has no effect on crabgrass once it reaches maturity. Unlike other herbicides, Prowl is safe to use on edible crops and can be applied over large areas of fields with no detrimental effect. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Use your hands to manually weed out as much of the crabgrass as possible. Since Prowl is not effective on mature plants, they must be removed manually before they are allowed to seed.
-
2
Fill a garden sprayer with Prowl Herbicide and close the lid tightly. Prowl herbicide should be applied at full strength and does not need to be mixed or diluted.

3
Aim the garden sprayer at areas of crab grass growth and spray the crabgrass and soil lightly with the Prowl solution. The solution should drip off of the crab grass blade and dampen the top layer of soil. Be sure to spray all locations where you previously weeded out crabgrass as well to kill any existing seeds. Prowl should be applied at a rate of 4 oz. per acre and adjusted accordingly for smaller areas.

4
Wait one week and then examine areas of crabgrass to see if they are still green. If signs of growth are still apparent, spray a different herbicide treatment on the crabgrass. Switching up the type of herbicide you use prevents the crabgrass from building up a resistance to the Prowl product, which will make it ineffective in the future.
