Troy-Bilt weed eaters are great tools to have around the yard to give your lawn a nice, crisp appearance. Troy-Bilt also makes changing line convenient by offering pre-wound replacement spools. You just need to change the spool on your Troy-Bilt weed eater, and you are ready to start trimming. It is not difficult to change the spool, and the process requires no tools. Instructions

    • 1

      Pull the spark plug wire boot off the top of the spark plug with your fingertips. You may have to twist the spark plug boot slightly to the left and then pull the boot off the plug.

      Turn the Troy-Bilt weed eater on its side so you can access the weed eater head.

      Turn the bump knob counter-clockwise with your hand. The bump knob is the portion of the head that you bump on the ground to fee more trimmer line when trimming the grass.

      Pull the bump knob off along with the foam seal and the spring below the bump knob. Pull the inner spool with the leftover line from the outer spool housing.

      Insert the ends of the replacement spool trimmer line through the line holes on the outer spool. Set the inner spool inside the outer spool.

      Place the spring on top of the inner spool and place the foam seal on top of the spring. Position the bump knob over the foam seal and spring and push the bump knob down to compress the spring.

      Turn the bump knob clockwise to lock the knob into position. Grab the ends of the trimmer line and pull out to release the line from the holding clips on the inner spool.

      Turn the weed eater upright and push the spark plug wire boot back over the spark plug.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid placing the Troy-Bilt weed eater upside down as this could cause fuel leakage.

  • Always disconnect the spark plug wire before attempting repairs on your Troy-Bilt weed eater.
