How Do I Check What Sites Link to My Site?

Use search engines to determine your site's backlinks.

One way to assess website popularity is by viewing the list of links to your website. The major search engines such as Google and Yahoo! have techniques that allow you to view what websites are linking to you. This gives you an idea of how well your backlink campaigns are working, and if other people are finding your site informational and useful. To view sites linking to you, use the "link" operator in Google and Yahoo!'s SiteExplorer.

Instructions

Yahoo

1. Open your web browser and navigate to the Yahoo Site Explorer. When you navigate to the page, you are prompted to enter a URL.

2. Enter your website's URL and press the "Explore" button. This lists all the links associated with your website including internal pages.

3. Select "Except from this domain." This lists only the external websites that link to your site and filter out any of your own internal links.

Google

1. Open your web browser and navigate to the Google homepage.

2. Type the following into the Google search text box:
   "link:<your_site>"
   Replace "<your_site>" with your domain. Ensure there is no space between the colon and your site's URL.

3. View the list of results. Google also displays a count of how many URLs contain your site's link.
