Change your name by contacting the USPS

Although changing your mailing address can easily be accomplished by filling out a new address form at the official United States Postal Service (USPS) website, in order to change your name you must visit your local post office or call the toll-free USPS customer service number. Once the change request is made, it can take up to 10 business days for the changes to take effect.

Instructions

  1. Change Your Name at the Post Office

    • 1

Visit your local post office and ask for the PS Form 3575 Change of Address form. Write "Correction" at the top of the form, and fill in your new name in the "Name" section the form.

    • 2

Fill in your address, city, state and zip code in the "Old Address" and "New Address" section. Sign and print your name at the bottom of the form, and fill in the current date. Tear off the bottom of the form at the perforated line, as the bottom portion is yours to keep.

    • 3

Turn in the change of address form to a post office representative, or drop the form in a mailbox.

    Change Your Name via Phone
