How to Line the Inner Envelopes
For weddings and other formal events, lined outer and inner envelopes are typically used to accent the formal invitation and event stationary that the envelopes contain. Most stationary stores sell lined envelopes, but you can also "dress up" your own envelopes with a few paper crafting materials and a small amount of your time. Nothing says you can't decorate your everyday envelopes or envelopes for your special occasion greeting cards while you're at it.

1
Measure the envelope flap. Use your ruler to measure the width and length.

Measure the decorative paper so that it's one inch shorter than the width and 1/2 inch shorter than the length of the envelope flap. Use your pencil to create a sketch of the line where you'll want to cut.

3
Cut the decorative paper. Use scissors or a paper cutter to cut the decorative paper along the pencil line.

4
Position the decorative paper so that it's centered from left to right and the top of the decorative paper meets the top of the flap of the envelope.

Tips & Warnings
After gluing the decorative paper to the envelope, place the envelope flap under a heavy book such as a dictionary. The weight of the book helps the paper to adhere better to the envelope.
You can also substitute the glue stick with craft glue dots. Craft glue dots can be strategically placed along the edge of the paper and then applied to the envelope flap, to avoid the glue drying out on the paper before you can add it to the envelope.
Do not use school or liquid glue, which can cause the paper to buckle and takes longer to dry than glue from a glue stick.
