Fix Moen Tub Faucets

Moen bathroom tub faucets are built to last, but as with any fixture in your bathroom, with enough use and age, they too will break. The most common malfunction with any Moen faucet is water leakage from the handles. If you start to notice this or inconsistent water temperature flow, then the stem inside your faucet is most likely broken. You can easily find a replacement stem for your faucet at most major hardware or home improvement stores. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Removal

    • 1

Turn off the shut off valve under the sink, leading to the faucet.

    • 2

Remove your Moen faucet's handle in order to remove the old, broken stem. If you have a single-handle faucet, you will have to use an Allen wrench to remove the screw at the base of the handle. If you have a double-handle faucet, you will have to use a screwdriver to remove the screw on top of the faucet. First, however, use the screwdriver to pry off the decorative cap that hides this screw.

    • 3

Remove the screw holding the stem in place (there may or may not be a screw depending on the model of your faucet). The stem will be a thin long brass piece sticking up out of the body of your faucet.

    • 4

Using a pair of pliers for a better grip, remove the old stem. If you have an older faucet, you may need to purchase a Moen stem puller.

    Installation

    • 5

Insert the new stem into the body of the faucet, pushing it securely in place.

    • 6

Reinstall the screw that holds the stem in place (there may or may not be a screw depending on the model of your faucet).

    • 7

Place the handle back on the faucet, screwing it back in place.

    • 8

Test the new stem, ensuring that both the hold and cold functions work and there is proper water flow.
