Strapless smock tops can be secured with fashion tape

Celebrities and performers use dress tape to help keep their clothes from slipping. This hypoallergenic, double-sided tape holds clothing to the body, preventing slippage of loose tops and dresses and limiting unintended exposure. Dress tape, also known as fashion tape, lingerie tape or cleavage tape, should be a staple in any woman's wardrobe. The tape can secure hems, will keep straps from falling and will hold up your loose smock top.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on the strapless smock top and determine where it needs to be secured. In most cases just a few pieces of tape along the bust will be sufficient to prevent exposure. If the top is more than one size too large, you may need to also secure it in the back.

    • 2

Use one 2-inch long piece of dress tape and place in on the inside of the right top edge of the smock top. If you are wearing a strapless bra attach the other side of the tape at the top of the right cup, ensuring that the top is concealing the tape and bra. If you are not wearing a bra, then attach the other sticky side of the tape to the skin above your right breast.

    • 3

Repeat step two on the left side of the garment and again in areas that feel loose.

    • 4

If you need more support in the back, repeat the process along the back top of the smock top.

    • 5

Ensure that your top is secure by twisting, bending over and jumping. Dress tape should be tough enough to withstand a night of dancing. Add extra tape to areas that feel loose.

Tips & Warnings

  • Dress tape can be purchased at department stores and most drug stores in a lingerie or hosiery department.

  • Purchase clear dress tape that will blend in with both dark and light garments.

  • If you aren't wearing a bra and your smock top is sheer you can also use dress tape to cover your nipples.

  • Dress tape can also be used to make a temporary hem.

  • Don't use regular double-sided tape as it contains adhesives that can irritate the skin.
