Use a basic pattern to make a pair of colorful boxer shorts. Cut out your boxer shorts, per the pattern's directions, using two pieces of 60-inch-wide fabric in contrasting colors, and 1-inch elastic that has been cut to fit the waist. Cut the front pieces out of one color fabric and the backs out of the contrasting color. Sew together.

Use transfer paper to copy a favorite photograph onto a pair of boxer shorts. Print the photo on transfer paper, then carefully choose where on the boxer shorts you want the picture to appear. Iron the transfer paper onto the boxer shorts. Peel away the paper and you have a personalized pair of shorts.

Use fabric paint to personalize the boxer shorts with a nickname, such as "Mr. Big" or for a dad-to-be "Babymaker." Prewash the boxers, and iron them carefully. Use stencils on the shorts to ensure that the paint goes on evenly. Remove the stencils and allow the paint to dry before wearing.

Iron-on appliques can be applied to boxer shorts, including crowns, guitars or Disney characters to name just a few. For the groom-to-be, consider adding appliques of a ball and chain, a series of hearts, or a wedding cake. Most appliques can be adhered with heat from an iron, though others require sewing.

Add trim to the edges of the boxer shorts. Match the color to the celebration. For a St. Patrick's Day celebrant, add green fringe, or add a silver sequined border to a pair for a man celebrating his 25th anniversary. Most trims can be applied with fabric glue.
