How to Create Scripts in Windows XP Professional

Windows XP Professional supports the creation and use of batch scripts to perform automated tasks. This is useful for situations where you have several tasks that you want to be carried out in order, without performing them manually. If you want to create a batch script in Windows XP Professional, you can do so with nothing more than a text editor and knowledge of Windows scripting commands.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a text editor, like Notepad, from the Start menu. Notepad can be opened by clicking the "Start" button, clicking on "All Programs," clicking on "Accessories" and then opening the Notepad program.

    • 2

Click the "File" button, select "Save As" and enter the name of the file , followed by a ".bat" extension. Be sure that the file type is set to "All Files" in the drop-down, not "Text Files."

    • 3

Enter the commands you wish to run into the text file and then save it. If this file is double-clicked on, it will execute the commands contained within it.
