How to Install a Hydrogen Generator
Proper installation of your hydrogen generator (also called an electrolyzer) is critical to the safe operation and efficiency of the device. The hydrogen gas produced by the system is explosive under the right conditions. However, due to hydrogen's ability to dissipate rapidly in air, properly installing the generator is not difficult. Avoiding the "Big Bang" is a matter of installing the correct safety devices into the system. Bubblers and check valves are required safety devices that prevent explosions, and should never be disregarded. Today's large high-efficiency hydrogen generators are too big to fit the cramped engine compartment and should be installed in the trunk or hatch area.
Things You'll Need
- Hydrogen generator
- Self-tapping sheet metal screws
- Drill motor
- Drill bits
- Course thread machine screws
- "L" brackets
- R.T.V. silicon
- Wire ties

1
Position the hydrogen generator in the trunk or hatch area of the vehicle. To minimize sloshing of the electrolyte liquid, it should be mounted as close to the center of the vehicle as possible. Mark the position of the corners of the housing, and desired bracket position, with a felt tip pen and remove the generator. Mark the bracket position on both the generator and the floor of the vehicle.

2
Pre-drill and tap the bracket mounting holes in the acrylic hydrogen generator housing. Avoid drilling completely through the hydrogen generator. If you do, use R.T.V. silicon to seal the hole and prevent leaks. Attach the mounting brackets to the hydrogen generator housing.

3
Position and mark the bracket position of the bubbler and the exit hole for the supply tube running to the engine compartment. Check for objects under the vehicle that might be damaged from drilling, then drill the exit hole for the supply line.
-
4
Position the hydrogen generator and bubbler in the trunk or hatch area, aligned with the marks previously made. Using self-taping sheet metal screws, attach the hydrogen generator and bubbler to the vehicle.
-
5
Connect the outlet of the hydrogen generator to the inlet of the bubbler with vacuum hose. Run vacuum hose from the outlet of the bubbler to the engine compartment. Attach the outlet hose to a manifold vacuum source under the hood. Position the hose away from hot objects using wire ties.
