      Loosen the clamps that secure the dryer ductwork to each end of the dryer vent elbow with a Phillips-head screwdriver. The clamps have a screw to loosen and tighten the clamp around the ductwork and the elbow.

      Pull the ductwork away from the sleeve of the elbow. Inspect the ductwork around the elbow for wear and damage. Replace any faulty ductwork at the same time you replace the elbow to eliminate the need for more repairs later. Now is a great time to clean the ductwork as well and remove built-up lint.

      Take the elbow to the hardware store to purchase your replacement. It is a good idea to purchase a roll of metal foil tape. The tape will act as an extra connection between the ductwork and the elbow.

      Place the elbow into position and slide the dryer ductwork on each sleeve end of the elbow. Tighten the clamp with the screwdriver to secure the ductwork to the dryer vent elbow.

      Wrap the metal foil tape around the elbow and ductwork connection. Wrap the tape around the clamp and 3 inches over each end of the connection.
