You can do just about anything with your computer, including watching and recording video. With an installed TV tuner card you possess the ability to view any outside television programming, including content from a satellite dish. Instructions

    • 1

Connect the coaxial cable to the "Out" port on the back of the satellite receiver. Plug the opposite end of the cable into the "In" port on the TV tuner card. You can purchase an external TV tuner card from most electronic stores for under $50.

    • 2

Launch the TV viewing software that came with the TV tuner card. If you just installed a TV tuner card, you need to install the tuner card driver, followed by the software. Both come on CDs provided with the TV tuner card.

    • 3

Power on the satellite receiver. You can see the content on your computer screen. Change the programming station to one you like, and click the "Record" button on the computer program. This begins the recording process. Click "Record" again to stop the recording process.

    • 4

Save the file to a handy location on your computer. Depending on the settings of your program, the recording will usually be in .wmv, .mov or .avi format.

    • 5

Insert the blank DVD into the DVD burner of your computer, and close any AutoPlay windows that appear. Launch the DVD-burning software on the computer.

    • 6

Select to create a "Video DVD," then click and drag the recorded video file into the main viewing area of the DVD program. Click "Record," and the captured video records onto the DVD.
