How to Make Water Fountain Wedding Cakes
Wedding cakes with water fountains look extravagant, but they are no more difficult to create than traditional stacked wedding cakes. Look for used fountains, cake separator plates and columns at resale shops or garage sales as many people purchase them for only one use. Plan the cake out thoroughly before you attempt to create and assemble it and make sure that the fountain is the appropriate size for the finished cake. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Cake fountain
- 2 cake separator plates
- Decorated cake tiers
- Wooden dowels
- 6 to 8 columns

Purchase a cake fountain from a cake-decorating supply shop or online. Assemble the fountain according to the package directions and make sure that it works properly before you begin to assemble the cake.

Place the fountain on a cake separator plate at least 1 inch larger than the fountain.

Decorate a cake tier at least 2 inches larger than the cake separator plate you used for the fountain. Insert dowels into the cake trimmed so that they are even with the top of the cake. The dowels must be inserted at 2- to 3-inch intervals just inside the area where the fountain will be placed. Alternatively, use the fountain as the bottom of the cake and skip this step.

Place the fountain and the cake separator plate gently on top of the bottom tier of the wedding cake.

Arrange columns on the cake separator plate around the fountain at 2- to 3-inch intervals.

Place a second cake separator plate, the same size as the first, on top of the columns.

Top the separator plate with a fully decorated cake tier the same size as the cake separator plate.

Stack more layers of cake by using additional cake separator plates and columns or by inserting dowels into the cake to support the upper layers.
