The Marny cocktail is a classic drink clearly named one of its main ingredients: Grand Marnier. Grand Marnier a cognac and orange liqueur invented in 1880 by Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle in France. The Marny cocktail is a simple drink that rarely gets ordered by its name anymore, and since the sales of gin have slowed greatly since the drink's heyday in the early 20th century, the drink is rarely consumed at all. Still, the Marny cocktail is a wonderful drink that gin purists and cocktail connoisseurs will appreciate. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Crushed ice
  • 2 oz. Grand Marnier
  • 1 oz. dry gin
  • Chilled cocktail glass
  • Lemon peel, for garnish

Instructions

      Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with crushed ice.

      Add the Grand Marnier and dry gin to the cocktail shaker.

      Cover the cocktail shaker and shake gently for 10 to 15 seconds. Don't shake too hard or you'll bruise the gin, resulting in an unpleasant juniper berry taste.

      Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker into a chilled cocktail glass.

      Garnish the drink with a twisted lemon peel and serve immediately while very cold.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want your drink to have a bigger kick, try adding a dash or two of absinthe right before serving.
