How to Transfer Pictures From One Computer to Another

Moving pictures from one computer to another is a snap.

With the move from traditional film to a digital medium, backing up your photos to your computer is becoming more and more essential as time ticks by.

While transferring images from your digital camera to your computer varies slightly depending on your camera and the memory format used, transferring images from one computer to another is simple and can be done by anyone with a portable flash drive.

Instructions

  Power on your computer and insert your portable flash drive.

  Open the flash drive. If using Windows, click the "Start" button on the Desktop taskbar, click Computer/My Computer, and open the flash drive there by double-clicking its icon. If using a Mac, double-click the flash drive's icon when it appears on your desktop.

  Browse your computer for the images to be transferred. Transfer the images to the flash drive by clicking and dragging them to the device window.

  Eject the flash drive when finished. If using Windows, right-click the flash drive in the Computer/My Computer menu and select "Eject" or "Safely Remove". If using a Mac, drag the icon for the flash drive to the "Eject" button on the dock.

  Remove the flash drive from the computer it and put it in the computer you want to transfer the images to. Open the flash drive according to the instructions in Step 2 based on whether you're using a Mac or Windows PC.

  Click anywhere on the flash drive window and press Ctrl+A (Windows) or Cmd+A (Mac) to select all of its contents. Click and drag the images to their new destination on your computer.
