How to Change Font Colors in Outlook 2002

Sending emails with color font is a good way to personalize and add flair to a letter. Adding colored words and phrases to an email can also effectively emphasize or highlight certain points within the letter's text. For users of Outlook 2002, however, this seemingly simple attempt at personalization or emphasis can be difficult, especially if one particular toolbar is not visible in the Outlook window. With some instruction, though, adding color to fonts in Outlook 2002 is quick and easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure the "Formatting" toolbar is displayed near the top of the Outlook program window.

If it is not clear whether or not this toolbar is visible, click "View" near the top of the program window, hover the mouse pointer over "Toolbars" and check to see if there is a check mark next to the "Formatting" option in the list that appears. If there is a check mark, the toolbar should already be displayed, but if no check mark is visible, click on "Formatting" to add the toolbar to the Outlook window.

    • 2

Highlight the text to be colored within the Outlook 2002 email by clicking just before the beginning of the piece of text, holding the left mouse button down, dragging it to just after the end of the selection and then releasing the mouse button.

This step is not necessary if the desired text has not yet been typed. If this is the case, simply follow the rest of these steps, type the text that is to be colored, then follow the steps again to change the text color back to normal.

    • 3

Click on "Font Color," on the "Formatting" toolbar near the top of the Outlook program window.

    • 4

In the "Font Color" palette that appears, select the desired color for the selected text.

The font color can be changed again, or reverted to its original color through this same process.

Tips & Warnings

  • If all text in an entire email is to be colored, either follow these steps, choosing the appropriate color before writing the email, or highlight the entire email text after writing the email, then follow the steps above.
