Connect your computer to the Internet.

A wireless router is connected to the modem and provides a wireless signal to your computer so it can pick up the Internet. In some situations, like split-level homes or larger homes, you can use two wireless routers to connect Internet to Internet--meaning that you can use two wireless routers to strengthen the Internet signal you have.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up your modem, or watch while the tech person sets it up and installs it.

    • 2

Connect the first wireless router to the modem with a CAT5 cable. Remember that a wireless router provides a wireless signal for Internet, but most still are connected via cable to the modem.

    • 3

Plug a second CAT5 cable into one of the "out" docks of the wireless router you have just connected. It should be a long cable, at least 25 or 50 feet.

    • 4

String this CAT 5 cable as far as it will go in your home. If you have different levels in your home, you might want to drill a hole in the floor or go through the air ducts to get to that level.

    • 5

Plug the CAT5 Cable into the "in" jack on the back of your second wireless router.

    • 6

Turn on your modem and both wireless routers. You should then have two different wireless signals to choose from when connecting to the Internet.
