How to Make Flag Stands
People might want to construct a sturdy, wooden flag stand to display flags at organization meetings and events. A simple stand can display your organization's flags with pride in a handmade stand created by the members. It can be finished off with a custom paint job or stained for a more professional appearance.

1
Cut the wood into sections. Mark where you will cut the 8 foot board using a measuring tape and pencil. You will need to cut the board into two 28 inch long sections and six 5 ½ inch sections. Cut the board with a hand saw or circular saw.
-
2
Stack two 5 ½ inch squares on top of each other and glue them into place. Repeat with two more squares. Glue these two sandwiched squares of wood to the end of a 28 inch board. The squares will become feet for the flag stand. Glue the remaining two single squares of wood to the ends of the other 28 inch board.

3
Allow the glue to dry. Nail the feet into place, keeping in mind that the long board is the top of the flag stand.
-
4
Form an "X" with the two long boards. The board with shorter feet will be on the bottom. Center the boards, using the measuring tape, if needed, to get the pieces properly placed. Hold the "X" together with wood glue and allow it to dry and nail it together.
-
5
Measure the plywood and create six squares, using a measuring tape and triangle tool. You will need two 2 ½ inch squares, two 4 inch squares and two 5 ½ inch squares. Cut then out with a hand saw or circular saw.
-
6
Find the centers of each square by marking an "X" across the square from corner to corner. Use a drill press with a 1 ¾ inch bit to place a hole in the center of each square. Be precise, as these holes will need to line up when the squares are stacked.
-
7
Stack the same-size squares into sandwiches and glue them together. Stack the three sandwiches on top of each other, forming a pyramid. Glue the pieces into place. Center the pyramid on top of the wooden "X" constructed previously and glue into place.
-
8
Finish the flag stand with an optional coat of paint or stain.
