Windsor Tie

1
The necktie can add an element of business dress to a dress shirt. Stand facing your mirror and loop the necktie around your neck with the wide end approximately 12 inches lower than the narrow end.
-
2
Men and women can easily learn to tie neckties themselves. Cross the wide end over the narrow end and bring it up through the loop from the back. Hold the wide end with one hand as you prepare to bring it down and behind the narrow end of your tie.
-
-
3
Bring the wide end down and around behind the narrow end of your tie, then up toward your right side.
-
4
Pull the wide end of your tie down through the loop you created in an earlier step and across the narrow end of your tie--around the front.
-
5
Turn the wide end, passing it through the loop again. Pass the wide end through the knot in front created by the loop. Tighten the knot and pull it up to your shirt collar.
Four-in-Hand Tie
-
6
Begin with the wide side of your necktie on the right side of your body. The narrow end has to extend past your collar approximately 1 foot--depending on how long you want this end to be when you finish. Cross the wide end of the tie over the narrow end from right to left.
-
7
Turn and fold the wide end of your tie under the narrow end. As you're looking at yourself in the mirror, the wide end of the tie should be oriented backward with the tag showing.
-
8
Turn the wide end of your tie over the top of the narrow end, with the tag on the wrong side now oriented against your shirt. You're creating a loop that becomes the knot of your tie.
-
9
Position the wide end of your tie so it can be pulled through the loop. The wide end must be placed in front of the narrow end as you're putting it through the loop and pulling it down.
-
10
Continue to pull the wide end of your tie through the loop, which should make the knot smaller. Pull the knot tight and adjust it against the neck of your shirt so it looks neat and tight. To tighten your necktie, hold the knot and pull on the narrow end of your tie slowly until it is centered over the top button of your shirt.
