Sciatic nerve pain can be relieved using herbal essential oils. Sciatica (pinched nerve) is a painful condition from a compressed sciatic nerve. Treat a pinched nerve (sciatica) naturally using these essential oils.

      Oil of Wintergreen (Methyl salicylate) has anti-inflammatory properties for sciatic nerve pain relief

      Treat sciatic nerve pain by applying oil of wintergreen topically to the pinched nerve area. In the book: "The Green Pharmacy Herbal Handbook," (See Resource #1 below) the authors identify an anti-inflammatory compound called methyl salicylate that helps alleviate the pain and swelling associated with sciatica.

      Apply cayenne infused oil topically to the area affected with sciatic nerve pain. An active ingredient in this oil, called capsaicin works to provide back pain relief from sciatica (See Resource #2 below). A number of natural creams and liniments containing capsaicin are widely available.

      Dilute St. John's Wort oil in olive oil or other carrier oil and apply it to the affected area to relax the pinched nerve. This is especially effective just before retiring to bed.

      Apply 2 grams to 4 grams of Jamaican dogwood on the area affected by sciatic nerve pain three times per day (See Resources #4 below).

      Relieve sciatic nerve pain using mustard oil and garlic (See Resource #5 below). Chop up 3 to 4 cloves of garlic into 50 grams of mustard oil. After the garlic has turned reddish let it cool and then massage the cloves with the oil on the area affected by nerve pain.

      Stimulate local circulation and reduce inflammation caused by a pinched nerve using peppermint essential oil. Dilute the peppermint oil with olive oil in a 2% solution. You may also substitute eucalyptus oil for the same purpose.
