Calling contacts from Outlook is just like using a phone.

In Microsoft Outlook, you can add all the pertinent information to a contact form, so you can always go back and refer to it later, whether it's an email address, mailing address, website or phone number. Outlook is outfitted to integrate with Vonage Talk, which allows you to call your contacts from your computer directly in Outlook. All you need to do is install the Vonage Outlook add-in and Vonage Talk will appear in your toolbar. However, if you're dialing a phone number with an extension, you need to make sure you have properly added the extension to your contact's phone number in Outlook.

      Open "Contacts" in your Microsoft Outlook account.

      Open an existing contact to display its full contact form.

      Under phone number, instead of typing "ext 1234," format the number with a few commas before the extension. For example, enter "+1 (773) 555-1234,,,,1234." If Outlook sees extra characters after the phone number, it will ignore the extension and not dial it. This format ensures it will dial the extension after a brief pause.

      Close the contact.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once the Vonage Talk add-in is installed, click a contact in your Outlook contact list to make a call. In the Vonage toolbar, the first phone number for the contact will appear in the box. Click the arrow to select from multiple phone numbers. The click "Dial."

  • Outlook is also integrate with Skype and you access your Outlook contacts with Skype.
