Enjoy your morning coffee--coffee filters or not.

For many of us, coffee is an essential jump start for the day. For an avid coffee drinker, a morning without coffee can be the beginning of a very bad day. Every so often you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of having no more coffee filters when you go to make your morning brew. You can get frustrated and go back to bed, or you can improvise. It is quite easy to make a substitute coffee filter. Simply look for the paper towels. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Introduction

    • 1

Find your paper towels. Paper towels are the best choice to make a substitute filter. If you don't have paper towels, don't worry. Find a thin piece of cloth that you don't mind parting with. This will work as well. Avoid using napkins. They are too thin.

    • 2

Shape the paper towel into a cone. Fold the paper towel to fit the shape of the coffee basket. Most coffee baskets have a standard shape but they come in different sizes.

    • 3

Cut off the excess paper. Make sure the lid closes properly without wrinkling your substitute filter. Make sure you have a tight fit or the coffee won't brew properly. It will overflow and you will be back where you started.

    • 4

Add the coffee grounds. Turn the coffee maker on. Keep an eye on it to make sure that your coffee filter is working.

    • 5

Drink your coffee. Relax and go about your day. Remember to stop at the store for coffee filters.
