How to Make Bacon Bird Suet
If you want to attract birds to your backyard and you love the idea of giving them a good meal, consider making up a batch of bacon bird suet. Suet is a high-energy food that consists of animal fat and other ingredients that will make it attractive to birds. When you want to give your local wild birds a taste of something different, think about offering them bacon bird suet.
Things You'll Need
- 1 cup solid unsalted bacon fat
- 1 cup ground cornmeal
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- Mixing bowl
- Raisins
- Bacon crumbles
- Wooden spoon
- Suet feeder
- Zip-lock bag

Place 1 cup of solid, unsalted bacon fat, 1/2 cup of peanut butter, and 1 cup of ground cornmeal into a large mixing bowl.

Add a small amount of raisins and bacon crumbles into the mixture. While these are optional items, you will find that they can be an extra treat for the birds.

Mix the ingredients together in the bowl with a wooden spoon until it stiffens into a thick, dough-like consistency. If necessary, add more cornmeal, which will thicken the mixture and keep it from getting too sticky

Place the suet into a suet feeder.

Store any remaining suet in a zip-lock bag in the refrigerator.

Tips & Warnings
During the summer, make sure that you do not use any meat scraps that will go bad when you set it outside. Dried bacon crumbles won't spoil.
Other fun treats to throw into the mix include sunflower seeds, flaxseeds, dried cranberries and spoonfuls of honey, which will sweeten the mixture.
If you do not have a suet feeder, you can also merely smear this suet onto the bark of a tree.
