How to Keep Plastic on a Wooden Greenhouse
Greenhouse plastic is an inexpensive and efficient way to cover your wooden frame greenhouse, providing light and insulation. You can purchase greenhouse plastic from a greenhouse supply company or home improvement center. The most common types of greenhouse plastic are polyethylene, which lasts for about a year, and copolymer, which lasts two to three years. Greenhouse plastic is easy to install and easy to keep on your greenhouse, even when it rips. Does this Spark an idea?

Installation
-
1
Cover any hard joints or angles on your greenhouse frame with several layers of duct tape. If you place the greenhouse plastic directly over these rough areas, it may puncture.
-
2
Unroll the plastic and cover your greenhouse with the plastic, cutting the plastic from the roll when you have enough of it to cover your frame. Before you start to attach it, make sure the plastic is centered and covers all sides. You will typically have to work in sections, covering one side, then the center, then the other side, since most greenhouse plastic will not be wide enough to cover a large greenhouse.

-
3
Staple the greenhouse plastic to the wood with a staple gun. As you staple it, pull the plastic tightly over the frame. Work in this manner until all the greenhouse plastic has been attached to your wooden greenhouse.
Maintenance
-
4
Measure any rips or tears with a measuring tape.
-
5
Cut a new piece of greenhouse plastic to patch the torn area. The patch should be several inches larger than the rip.
-
6
Attach the patch to the greenhouse using special greenhouse tape, sometimes called poly patching tape. Secure the patch with several pieces of tape. After you've attached the patch from the outside, enter the greenhouse and tape the patch to the greenhouse from the inside.

Tips & Warnings
Always use special greenhouse plastic. Standard plastic wrap is not strong enough to serve as a greenhouse cover.
It's best to patch greenhouse rips as soon as you notice them.
