How to Master QuickBooks Level 1
QuickBooks Level 1 is a training and certification program designed to help new users better understand QuickBooks. Although this is a certification program geared toward users rather than accounting professionals, mastering QuickBooks Level 1 can provide a good foundation for accountants who intend to work toward a QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification. Learning objectives cover basic QuickBooks tasks, such as setting up inventory, creating invoices and entering and paying bills. To complete the training necessary to master QuickBooks Level 1, you can attend instructor-led in-house training sessions or complete a self-paced training program.

Understand training objectives. While different programs may present objectives in a differing order, training focuses on basic QuickBooks tasks and concepts. You will become familiar with the QuickBooks interface, learn how to set up a company, create and manage customer and vendor lists, set up an inventory system, create invoices, process payments, pay bills and work with bank accounts.

Understand training options. To qualify for the QuickBooks user certification exam, you should first complete the Mastering QuickBooks Level 1 training program. Instructor-led, in-house training programs generally cover a two-day period and require traveling to the training location. Self-paced training includes training software, workbooks and, depending on the program, may also include online or telephone support for problems or questions. Two good places to begin your search for training are the QuickBooks website (click on "Training & Learning" for a link to training information) or the National Bookkeepers Association website (click on the "Training" tab).

Understand the exam. The Mastering QuickBooks Level 1 exam is a one-part online exam that focuses on the most current QuickBooks release. Passing the exam requires a score of 80 percent or higher, and you must wait seven days between exams if you fail and must retake the exam. The cost of the exam is included as part of the training program, or you can purchase the exam separately.
