A 2wire modem is a standard DSL or cable Internet modem that connects to an Internet source from an outside source and plugs directly into your computer. This kind of modem is most often used by homes and individuals connecting to the Internet. The modem is simple to set up and you don't need the aid of an Internet installation technician.

  • 2 Ethernet cables

      Plug the power adapter into the power port on the 2wire modem. Connect the adapter to any wall outlet.

      Insert the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the wall. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the "WAN" port on the 2wire modem. If you are using a cable modem attach the coaxial cable running out of the wall into the "WAN" port on the modem.

      Connect the second Ethernet cable into one of the "Out" ports on the rear of the 2wire modem. Most modems have anywhere from one to four out ports.

      Plug the opposite end of the Ethernet cable into the "Internet" port on the computer. This completes the actual 2wire modem setup.
