Connecting SharePoint Designer to SharePoint Server is quick and easy.

Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer allows nontechnical users to make changes to the look and feel of sites created with SharePoint Server. The program makes adding and editing text, images, hyperlinks, navigation elements and page layout components simple, requiring only point-and-click inputs instead of edits to raw HTML code. If your System Administrator has granted you the necessary permissions, using SharePoint Designer with a SharePoint Server site is very simple.

Instructions

    • 1

Open SharePoint Designer. Installation paths can vary, but the program is generally found by clicking the Windows Start button and selecting "Programs," "Microsoft Office," "Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer."

    • 2

Enter your SharePoint site location. Click the "File" menu at the top of the screen and select "Open Site." Provide the URL of your SharePoint site in the Site Name field, then click "Open."

    • 3

Choose how you want to edit your site. If your System Administrator has enabled the option, you will be allowed to choose one of two editing methods: editing the live SharePoint site page, or editing a locally saved copy of the page and publishing to the server after finalizing your changes. Click the button that corresponds with your choice, then click "OK."

    • 4

Enter your username and password in the resulting dialog box if prompted, then click "OK." SharePoint Designer is now interfaced with your SharePoint Server installation.
