How to Become a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor
Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisors are the people you look for when hiring an accountant and the people you turn to for assistance when QuickBooks does not make sense. Certification is available in two general levels and two specialized levels that include QuickBooks Certification and Advanced Certification, Point-of-Sale Certification and Enterprise Certification. To become a certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor you must purchase a membership in the ProAdvisor program, participate in a required training course, complete additional training if it is required for your level of certification and then score a minimum of 85 percent on certification exams.

Purchase a membership in the QuickBooks ProAdvisor program. To enroll in the ProAdvisor program you must first speak with an enrollment representative either by phone at (888) 890-2919 or via an online chat. After enrolling, you receive a member guide and access to the ProAdvisor website.

Enroll in training courses and complete required training for your level of certification. Courses required to qualify for exams depend on the level of certification you desire. For example, QuickBooks basic certification requires you to complete three training course modules that focus on clients, general things you need to know and information on recording transactions. Training is self-paced and includes training modules, additional resources, quizzes and exams, with no time limit for completing training requirements.

Meet additional exam requirements. While basic certification requires only that you complete required training for the current QuickBooks release, all remaining levels of certification have additional requirements. For example, to qualify for the QuickBooks Advanced Certification exam, you must complete training courses for QuickBooks versions going back 3 years and complete a biannual continuing education training requirement.

Take the online certification exam. The exam will consist of one or more parts and you must score a minimum of 85 percent on each part to pass the exam. For exams that consist of more than one part, such as the basic certification exam, QuickBooks does not require you to take them all at once. There is no penalty for failing the exam and no waiting period before you can try again.

For Certified Public Accountants: In some states, QuickBooks ProAdvisor training courses can qualify as part of your yearly continuing professional education requirement.
Maintaining a ProAdvisor certification requires continued membership in the ProAdvisor Program. Memberships renew on a yearly basis.
