How to Extend the Ringtone on a Cell Phone

Extending the duration of your ringtone is simple, but you'll have to talk to your service provider in order to do so. Some phones will allow you to go to the "Settings" menu and change some of the call settings. Not every phone will give you the option to change the duration of your ringtone, however. No universal method is available to extend your ringtone. The fastest and easiest way to accomplish this is to call your service provider and have them do it for you.

Instructions

1. Get the phone number for your service provider. Most cell phones have a specific number you can dial from your cell phone to speak directly to customer service. This number is usually 611, but you should consult your user's manual to check. If you don't have the user's manual, you can search the service provider online to obtain the customer service phone number.

2. Call your service provider and press 0 to get through the automated menu and straight to an agent. Some companies will have you press a different number to get to an agent, so be sure to listen to the options.

3. Tell the agent you would like to extend the time your phone rings before it goes to voicemail. You will be asked how long (in seconds) you would like your ringtone to ring before voicemail is activated. You will usually be allowed to pick anywhere between 5 and 30 seconds. The agent will be able to make the changes immediately.
