How to Find IDs in Yahoo Messenger

Your Yahoo! ID is the name that you use to access Yahoo! Messenger, Mail, Games, Personals and any of the other Yahoo! services that you must sign in to use. While all of your Yahoo! Messenger friends have a Yahoo! ID, some of them may choose display names that differ from their IDs. If you want to find the Yahoo! ID of someone on your contacts list, you just have to view the user's contact card, which you can quickly pull up from your friends list.

Instructions

1. Log in to Yahoo! Messenger.

2. Click on the avatar next to a contact's display name to show more information about the person. If they have not selected an avatar, a default gray smiley face will appear, and you can click it to view the information.

3. Notice the name at the top of the contact card. If the contact is using a display name other than his Yahoo! ID, his Yahoo! ID will be shown in parentheses next to his display name. If you do not see a name in parentheses, the person's display name on Yahoo! Messenger is his Yahoo! ID.

Tips & Warnings

• You can set your Yahoo! Messenger contact list to show only Yahoo! IDs instead of other display names your friends have chosen. Just click "Messenger," "Privacy Options" and "Appearance," and then change your settings in the "Messenger List" box.
