How to Connect Garter Suspenders to Stockings
Garters come in both men's and woman's styles. Before the advent of stay-up men's stockings, many men wore garters around their calves to hold up their socks.
Although many women go bare-legged these days, some choose to wear stockings and garter belts, or suspenders, for special occasions. Some garter belts come with stockings already attached. Others, however, are reminiscent of garter belts worn in the 1950s. They are worn around the hip or waist, with hanging tabs in the front and the back to hold up the stockings.

Put on the garter belt, making sure it fits comfortably, and the tabs are facing front and back. The tabs, which hang from sometimes-adjustable straps have two parts. The front part is a metal or plastic loop, and the back part has a bump that goes through the loop and keeps the stocking secured.

Put on one stocking, making sure it reaches the tabs in the front and back of your thigh. Grasp the top front of the stocking (without tugging too hard and making sure none of your nails snag the stocking), and place a bit of the fabric between the bump and the loop on the tab. Hold in place with one hand while sliding the loop over the fabric and the bump with the other hand.
Repeat with the tab in the back of the thigh. -

Repeat with the other leg and other stocking.

Tips & Warnings
Always attach the stocking at the top, where the fabric is double thickness. Attaching the stocking elsewhere can result in a hole or a run.
