  • Internet access
  • CD creating software
  • Blank CD-R

      Download the Ubuntu ISO to your desktop. Note that this file is 690 megabytes and can take several hours to download depending on the speed of your Internet connection.

      Insert the blank CD-R and open your CD creating software. Choose "Burn Disc Image" from the list of actions and locate the Ubuntu ISO from the file browser. Select "Burn Disc" and allow the process to complete.

      Restart the Macbook with the Ubuntu disc still in the drive. Hold down the "C" key to make the computer boot into the CD. When the Ubuntu menu comes up, choose "Run Ubuntu Without Making Changes to My Computer." This will mount Ubuntu on your Firewire Macbook and allow you to use and browse the operating system as though it were installed.
