Converting an MP3 file to CDG allows it to be used in standard karaoke systems.

MP3 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3) is a digital audio encoding format that uses a form of lossy data compression. It is a standard audio format for audio storage and digital audio compression for the transfer and playback of music on digital audio players. Compact Disc plus Graphics (CDG) is the most popular file format for karaoke disc. These files contain standard audio sound tracks along with graphics (images and lyrics) written in the "subchannel" section of each track.
To convert an MP3 file to CDG, a conversion program must be used. Many of these are available online as free trial downloads.
