Aiming a Sony DSS Dish is not an insurmountable task even for someone with no professional experience or dish knowledge. While the job is easier performed with a friend, all that is required to correctly aim a Sony DSS Dish is a hand-held level and a wrench. Check to ensure the mounting site for your Sony DSS Dish is clear and free of any obstructions. This means ensuring that the mounting area is flat and clear of debris. Also, check for any obstructions in the sky that may block signal reception from above, such as trees and power lines. As you mount the Sony DSS Dish in place, use a hand-held level to correct any issues, such as the dish being uneven or not flush with the mounting surface.

Aim the Sony DSS Dish to the southern sky. This need only be in the vicinity of the southern sky at the moment.

    • 3

Hook the Sony DSS Dish's satellite receiver to your television. This can be achieved by simply locating the included A/V cables and making the proper connections. Observe the A/V cables. There will be two sets of prongs, one on either end of the cables. Each set will have three prongs that are red, yellow and white. Similarly, there are color-coordinated red, white and yellow connectors on the back of your television and the back of the satellite receiver. Plug the prongs into these connectors, matching the colors up as you go.

Power on the Sony DSS Dish satellite receiver and your television. When the system powers on, a menu will appear. Choose the "signal meter screen" selection. As you return to the Sony DSS Dish outside, have a friend remain with the signal meter screen on your TV.

    • 5

Aim your Sony DSS Dish by setting the correct elevation (up/down movement of the dish). First, loosen the nuts located near the elevation bolts (if you have an issue locating these, refer to the visual diagram in your Sony DSS Dish manual). Use a wrench to loosen the nuts and then make gradual up/down dish adjustments. After each, your friend needs to report back to give you the signal meter screen's readings so further correct adjustments can be made.

Aim your Sony DSS Dish by setting the correct azimuth (left/right movement of the dish). First, loosen the LNB dish arm nuts, which is diagrammed in your manual. Once loosened, make similar gradual left/right adjustments. Continue with adjustments until the signal meter screen provides a 70 to 80 reading. Your Sony DSS Dish is now correctly aimed.
