How to Troubleshoot a Sharp SF-2314 Copier

How to Troubleshoot a Sharp SF-2314 Copier thumbnail
The SF-2314 is powerful enough for a business, yet compact enough for home use.

The Sharp SF-2314 photocopier was produced in the mid-1990s. It was designed to produce high-quality black-and-white copies. Although capable of producing copies fast enough for most business purposes, its small size also made the copier attractive for home use. As with any photocopier, the SF-2314 will periodically experience problems, most of which are easy to fix.

Things You'll Need

Ensure that the copier is turned on and, if the copier fails to produce copies or if the paper frequently misfeeds, check that the paper supply is properly loaded. The paper tray is located at the bottom of the front of the copier. The tray features an integral handle, which also operates as a switch. Lift the handle upward, then pull the paper tray out. Fan the copy paper to prevent it from sticking together and causing paper jams, then place the paper into the tray. Note that the copier's paper tray holds a maximum of 250 sheets. Push the paper tray toward the copier until the tray clicks into place.

Replace the toner cartridge if the copier fails to produce printed pages or if the print is gradually becoming lighter. The toner cartridge is located behind a plastic cover on the right side of the copier. A single button is located at the top of each end of the cover. Press both buttons toward the cover simultaneously to unlatch the cover, then lower the cover to expose the toner cartridge. A vertical lever is located on the left side of the toner cartridge. Push the level to its downward position, then pull the handle at the base of the cartridge to swing the cartridge out of the copier. Lift the cartridge out of its housing, then lower the replacement cartridge into place. Press the cartridge into the printer until the latch on the left side of the cartridge clicks into place. Close the plastic cover on the side of the copier.

If the printer produces blank copies, ensure that the page to be copied is positioned face down onto the document glass.

Clean the document glass if the copier is producing striped copies. Wipe the glass surface with a clean, lint-free cloth. To remove stubborn marks, water or glass cleaner may be used in conjunction with the cloth. Do not use benzene or thinner cleaning agents.

Remove a misfed page if the copier stopped suddenly during the copying process. The copier may periodically misfeed a page through its paper rollers. A stuck page will prevent the copier from copying. Lower the plastic cover on the right side of the copier. The plastic cover is held in place with two latches, which are released with two buttons. One button is located at the top of each side of the cover. Press the two buttons into the cover simultaneously, then lower the cover. At the rear corner of the printer is a release lever. Push the lever away from the copier, then lift the top of the copier to expose its paper rollers and the misfed page. Grasp both ends of the jammed page and pull the page out of the rollers. Close the top of the copier, followed by the plastic cover.

Make sure that the correct weight of paper is used and that the paper supply is dry, if the copied print rubs off easily or if the paper frequently misfeeds. Only use paper measuring from A6 to B4 and with a weight of between 52 and 130 grams per square meter, or "g/m2."
